Day 76 of 108 -I'm Back!

Sleep: slept 6 hours, (did my morning kriya), then slept another 1.5ish hours
Sun: no, sorry to say
Water: about 3 liters
Fuel: banana-celery-date smoothie, banana-spinach-date smoothie (-really good!), lots of dates, big red leaf lettuce & cucumber salad with carrot-avo-tomato dressing
Fun: MBG exercises for over an hour. Mostly on the Jungle Gym and on the wooden floor in my artstudio. I tried the something called the Power Wheel too.  It looks easy, -but it's not. Wow, really tough. It's fun though, but definitely not easy. There are lots of ways to use it. I tried only two ways; walking with hands & reaching forward on knees. Both were very hard for me. Humbling to say the least. Something to work up to. My goal is to keep going with the MBG exercise routines till I can walk on my hands. :) I'm aiming for at least 30 minutes of them 6 days a week.

I also did my kriya this morning. I did complete the last one. I did 40 days straight of Gurmukh's "Liberation" kriya. This time I am working on her "I Love You Meditation". I will be doing it for 1 year! I asked her if this is OK since stopping at 40 days is the recommended practice. She told me go ahead, do it for as long as you like. So here goes nothing! Today is day 5 of it. Many more to go...

The new one-

Happy New Year! ;) UPDATE

I just completed 10 days of my silent retreat. It wasn't exactly silent. I did have a few calls from close friends & family that I chose to answer. Other than that, it was me, at home, in my bed on most days. I did do some very lite exercise & I did read plenty. I also worked on a few creative projects, because ideas kept popping in my head. I think my mind was clearer & it allowed ideas to flow. Another thing I did was fast. I drank only clean plain water, no food or drinks since December 22nd. This was much easier than I thought it would be. The plan was to be on my silent retreat & fast until January 1st. But it went by so fast, I want to extend it. I think what I will do is, do a modified silent retreat (some emailing & talking, but much less than usual) & fast. I will continue with water only until I feel like it's time to stop (there are also two signals that I will look for; pink tongue or hunger felt in the throat). Or, if it gets close to 21 days, that will be enough for me. I definitely won't go longer that that. No matter what's going on. I'll probably go to 14 days, and play each day by ear after that.
So,.... I won't have any food to report until the 12th of January probably. (Which is my Birthday. -Yay!) But, if you want to see what I am up to until then, I'll be posting exercise (very lite exercise) on my 30Bananas-a-day thread. I will also be tweeting daily on Twitter. I won't start it until January 2nd. So check in then, and from that point forward, it will be a daily thing. There is also my weekly blog Sunday Is For Lovers. You can get the latest scoop on my week there.
I'm looking forward to filling you in on the latest eats in 2010. I really enjoyed blogging all of my meals this year. It felt great & it reminded me of how much I love to eat fruits & veggies (mostly fruit though). This was my best year for many reasons, and I look forward to making 2010 even better! -Cheers!

*♥ *Wishing all of you an amazing, fun, healthy, creative, loving & blissful New Year. Lots of love & big hugs.*♥ *  XO!

14 Day Cleanse -Day 7

Today I am going to write a few words about what is working well and what is not.

First I want to say that I am LOVING this cleanse and I think it's going really well. I am looking forward to the next 7 days. But, I will list a few things that I can do better with next week....

Preparation is so important.  I let a few things slide. I didn't consistently buy fruit. In the beginning I was really good about keeping the kitchen fully stocked with various fruits. Then I slowly stopped replacing them. This includes non-sweet fruits. I never replaced the tomatoes that I ate early on, then today, I started to crave complicated recipes that had tomatoes in them. If I would have keep tomatoes in the house, I wouldn't be 'craving' them. I would be eating them!

I began to slip into higher fat raw again without thinking. I bought a little box of young coconuts because I was going to start another Bikram yoga challenge and I wanted to have the coconut water to drink after class if I felt dehydrated. Well, I didn't begin that Bikram challenge, I decided to cleanse (for now) instead. I forgot the coconuts were not on my original 14 day cleanse list and I started eating them. The very interesting thing that I noticed was, my bowel movements changed. Before in the young coconuts my BMs were amazing! I was so happy.  After 3 days of just fruit & greens (on this cleanse) my digestion improved and my BMs got much fuller and longer. Before the cleanse I was having inconsistent BMs. Some days they were fully formed, some days they looked small and inadequate. After 3 days of just fruit & greens I was going as soon as I woke up and not long after my main meals. Things were running smoothly. As soon as higher fats came in, they slowed down and thinned out. Also, my energy dropped a bit and I needed a little more rest than the days with no overt fats.

Another thing I noticed is that I feel much better when I drink water first thing in the morning. The last few days I have been playing catch-up, by drinking my water later in the day or in the evening. It doesn't work as well then. Better than nothing of course, but when I try to drink at least 1 liter of water earlier in the day I feel better (and I choose better). Then I get around to another liter later on. Lately I've been skipping that morning liter. I can definitely see and feel the difference. It doesn't feel so good. I didn't notice it in the beginning, but now that a week has passed, I can really notice the side effects.

Softer leafy greens vs. tougher leafy greens. I noticed that I bought way too many tough leafy greens (like dinosaur kale) for this cleanse. My fridge is still loaded with it. I haven't liked it much with fruit. I think celery, fresh herbs, dandelions (if you like bitter), baby lettuces and spinach are much better for fruit combos.

Tomorrow I will have lots of veg juice & mono veggie meals to catch up on green produce (-that will soon go brown!). I will also try a week without coconut. That was the original plan, but I some how got young coconuts in. (-Opps, take 2!)

I think exercise has really helped. I started an exercise support link on '30Bananas-a-day'. It's a fun site for low-fat vegans (..or wanna be low-fat vegans, ...or low-fat vegan lovers, etc..) ..and just plain ol' fruit lovers of course! You can sign on to be part of my exercise thread. I would love to have your support and to support you in your fitness goals!

Today I ate;

2.5 liters of water
Grapefruit juice (6 grapefruits)
Banana-celery smoothie (6 bananas and 2 celery stalks)
Banana-heirloom lettuce smoothie (6 bananas and lettuce)
Banana-celery smoothie (4 bananas and heirloom lettuce)
Pears (4 small Red Bartlett)
= 2200 total calories

(I exercised too! I'm back to exercising daily again. My back is feeling better and it's great news. I am really excited about it. Also, the weather is getting better and spring is here, so I look forward to working out outdoors. But, I just wanted to say, ..I think I am going to list calories or nutrients daily with the day's meals instead of exercise. I think it would help me, and maybe you, get an idea of the numbers in a raw food diet. For example; you really can't get sufficient calories unless you eat sweet fruit or fat. Non-sweet fruits, medium sweet fruits and greens really don't add up to much. They have lots of good stuff, but they are really low calorie. Balancing them with sweet fruits or fats gives your total calories a big boost. As the days pass this year you will see how it all breaks down and adds up on this blog.)
